Is Loid Anya’s Real Dad? What The Spy x Family Manga Says

Anya’s past is shrouded in mystery, so we don’t know much about her biological parents. However there are a few theories floating around that Loid is more than Anya’s adoptive father. I’m going to explore whether these theories have any bases in reality.

Loid is not Anya’s real dad in the Spy x Family manga or anime. Loid is only Anya’s adoptive father and before the main plot of the manga and anime, Loid and Anya had never met. Loid is not the type of person to have a child and not know / abandon them and it has never been hinted that he is Anya’s dad.

Spy x Family has not given us any reason to believe that Loid Forger is Anya’s real dad. We don’t even know what Loid’s real name is! (Although, we can hazard a few guesses.) While it’s true that the manga and anime have their differences, neither have dropped so much as a hint to Loid being Anya’s father. They’ve given us plenty of reasons to believe that he isn’t however (which I’ll cover below in detail.)

The manga and anime have both shown us when Loid and Anya met. They have also explained Anya’s past as a poor orphan with no parents. Neither, the anime nor the manga, have dropped so much of a hint that Loid is Anya’s real father, so he definitely isn’t. With that being said, Spy x Family is still in its early stages, and there’s no telling when it will end, so the writers may drop a truth bomb on us sometime, who knows!

Don’t get me wrong, Loid is Anya’s real father in the sense that he loves and cares for Anya greatly. In fact, the anime and manga have both given us more than enough evidence that Loid loves Anya. So while Loid isn’t Anya’s biological father, he’s definitely her real father and has proven over and over how much he deserves that title.

If you need any more proof, take a look at the many Spy Family fan theories. I spent a long time searching for even one theory of Loid being Anya’s father and couldn’t find a single theory. When it comes to anime, you can pretty much always find a theory for everything, even ridiculous things that are so far out of the world they seem impossible. I couldn’t find a single theory for Loid being Anya’s father. That should tell you something right off the bat!

Why aren’t there any fan theories that place Loid as Anya’s biological dad? Well, because there’s a ton of proof in the Spy Family manga and anime showing that he isn’t!

The Spy x Family manga and anime have both give us a ton of reasons to believe that Loid is not Anya’s dad, including:

• Loid Would Know: Loid is a pragmatic, all-business, super spy. Before meeting Anya and Yor, he never did anything that wasn’t strictly for his mission. He’s not a James Bond character that would sleep around and have a kid he never knew about. I would be absolutely shocked to find out that Loid was sleeping around at all, let alone without using protection. That could put his mission in jeopardy, afterall. So, long story short, if Loid was Anya’s father, he would know.
• Anya Can Read Loid’s Mind: Playing off of the previous point, if Loid knew, Anya would know because she can read Loid’s mind. I’m not the best reader of people, but I don’t think Anya would be very good at hiding her excitement if she read Loid’s mind and realized that he was, in fact, her real, biological father.
• Anya Is An Experiment: There are some Spy Family fan theories out there stating that Anya was completely created in a lab. This is kind of far-fetched, but what we do know is that Anya is an experiment. She’s been experimented on since she was a child and never knew her real parents. The Spy Family manga and anime have hinted that Anya knew her biological mother, or at least a mother before Yor, however it’s never mentioned her dad. What are the odds that Loid would have a daughter he didn’t know about and that daughter would wind up becoming the subject of some secret experiment. Well, unless they chose Anya specifically because she was the daughter of a notorious super spy…

Anya Remembers Her Mom (So She Would Likely Remember Loid): As I mentioned, Anya has hinted that she knew a mom before Yor. During her entrance exams, when pressed about whether she loves Yor or her biological mother, Anya got extremely upset. In fact, she got so upset that it sent Loid into a rage. Whether it was his love for Anya or debatably his love for Yor, Loid lost his cool for the first time in his career. Now, if Anya remembered her mother, it’s very likely she would remember her father if she had one. Maybe her “mother” wasn’t her biological mother at all, maybe she was just a scientist. We don’t know, but if Anya has any memories of a mom, then if she had a dad she would remember them as well. Long story short, she doesn’t remember Loid, so it’s unlikely that he is her real dad.

Note that most of these theories do not have much backing. They’re just theories wildly speculated by fans. Unfortunately, Spy X Family just isn’t a series that lends itself to super in-depth theories, but we can still find some interesting ones every now and then!

These are the best Spy X Family fan theories about Anya’s Real dad (that do not involve Loid Forger):

Anya’s dad lead her experiments:

This theory is very interesting and the most likely one to be true, in my opinion. Spy Family has explained to us that Anya went through experiments throughout her childhood. This is most likely how she got her powers. This theory states that Anya’s real father actually led these experiments, maybe along with her mother. Anya has referenced her mama before (no Yor), which makes fans believe that maybe her mom and dad were both scientists, but her mother actually interacted with her. Another variation of this theory states that Anya’s parents died and the scientists that experimented on her took on the roles of her “mama” and “papa.”

Anya’s biological dad is dead:

This theory states that Anya’s biological father passed away when she was just a baby. This doesn’t do a great job of explaining why or how he passed away. Maybe he passed away due to his powers, and he passed those powers onto Anya somehow. It’s very likely that Anya’s real father is dead (although I hope he isn’t, for the sake of future drama), the real question is why is he dead. Maybe he’s dead because he knew about Anya’s powers?

Anya’s real dad is not her dad because Anya is a clone:

This theory is rather interesting, but I’ve seen it make its rounds on Youtube and Reddit recently. The theory states that Anya is even less of a normal child than we suspected. Not only is she quirky and has mind reading powers - but maybe she’s also a clone!

This theory actually has some legs because Sherwood has mentioned having a daughter around Anya’s age, yet at the same time, the series has alluded to Sherwood’s daughter being dead. Maybe Anya is her daughter, or maybe she is a clone of Sherwood’s daughter!

Anya’s real dad was the test subject:

We know for a fact that Anya was a test subject (unless Spy x Family lied to us.) But what if her biological father was also a test subject? What if this lead to Anya getting her powers and even eventually lead to the death of her real father? The series has left Anya’s biological father in a shroud of mystery, and it would make sense if the reason was due to her real father being a test subject. Maybe he didn’t die, but will make an appearance in a later chapter, powers and all!

Anya is not related, by blood, to Loid Forger at all in the Spy x Family manga or anime. The two are related by law, though, because Loid adopted Anya. This means that legally, Loid is Anya’s father. There are no signs in the manga or anime that Loid is Anya’s biological father, he is her adoptive father.

Anya may not be related to Loid by blood, but the two are without a doubt connected now. Loid has adopted Anya, and whether he wants to believe it or not, there’s no doubt that he cares about her. Pick any of the best Spy x Family episodes and you will see the love spark between Loid and Anya. Before Anya, he was a no-nonsense super spy. Now he’s a dad. He’s not related to Anya by blood, he’s not her biological father, but he is 100% her papa.

Loid Forger is Anya’s real father. Loid is the only father that Anya has ever known. He is not Anya’s biological father, but he is her adoptive father and therefore has every child-parent right that a biological father would have. Neither the Spy Family manga or anime have specified Anya’s biological father.

Spy Family has hinted at Anya having a real mother, before Yor, but it hasn’t clarified much about who that mom was or even whether that mom was Anya’s biological mom. For all we know, it could’ve been one of the scientists experimenting on her.

Spy x Family has never even mentioned a biological father or hinted at one existing. So, long story short, we just don’t know who Anya’s real, biological father is, and we may never know (okay we will probably find out eventually.)

For all intents and purposes, Loid is Anya’s real father. He’s not her biological father, but he’s her real father. He cares for her, he is raising her, and he has literally adopted her and has all of the rights a real father would have. So, while it may sound like a cop out, my opinion is that Loid is Anya’s real father and the closest thing to a papa she’s ever had.
