Many Chainsaw Man readers and viewers are having a hard time differentiating between Makima and Power due to their similar looks, nature, and even similar roles in the series. This article will break down their differences in full detail.
No, Power and Makima are not the same person. Power is a Public Safety Devil Hunter who is a part of Makima’s special squad. Makima is a high ranking Public Safety Devil Hunter who leads the squad Power and Denji are a part of. Power and Makima look similar so they are often confused as the same person.
Makima is later revealed to be of a much darker nature than previously thought. The manga follows a path that reveals the corrupted mind of Makima and the devil within her. It remains to be seen but the anime is likely to follow suit. Power is how she appears for the most part at least. She is rude, messy, and brash but she becomes an important part of Chainsaw Man and Denji’s future. After all she is a Bloodfiend and Chainsawman is fueled by Blood. I'm sure you can take this where you will but the connection between Power and many other characters in the series will take different and interesting twists. She is a favorite character of mine for the way she holds the plot together later on in the series.
No, Power and Makima are not related. Makima is the leader of the Public Safety Devil Hunter special unit and captured Power so that she could make her a Devil Hunter. Power is a fiend with the power of the Blood Devil which makes her a valuable asset to her. Makima is Power’s boss and captor. Spoilers ahead:
SPOILERS BELOW:
The relationship between Power and Makima is an interesting one. It is eventually revealed that Makima is controlled by the control devil. She seeks Power out knowing she is the Blood Devil. Makima is obsessed with Chainsaw Man and uses Power to find and bring him under her control. Through the series Power and Denji’s relationship gets in the way of Makima’s control of the Chainsaw Devil. This results in the future attempt on Power’s life. I won't tell you exactly how this fight ends but it's an incredible peak of the series.
Makima is the leader of Public Safety’s Special Unit Devil Hunter squad. Power is a fiend with the power of the Blood Devil. She is also a member of the Special Unit Devil Hunter squad. Makima is shown to be more than she appears later in the anime. If you want to hear more about that read below.
SPOILERS BELOW:
Makima is revealed to be the Control Devil and the main antagonist of Chainsaw Man Part 1. She is later reincarnated as a new person known as Nayuta. I won't get into this right now but Makima’s character takes some very interesting twists and turns later in the series. She is personally one of my favorite anime villains of all time.
Power is less mysterious but just as interesting. She is a Bloodfied with the powers of the Blood Devil. She is shown to be rude, unkempt, and very self-motivated. She does have a peculiar relationship with a cat named Meowy. Power has a rocky relationship with most characters in the series but over time is shown to have some redeeming qualities. She initially is willing to sell out Denji to the Bat Devil for her cat Meowy but after Denji saved them both their relationship took a turn more towards siblings.
Power is afraid of Makima because she was captured and forced to join the Public Safety’s Devil Hunter program. In the anime Makima is portrayed through an infatuated perspective of Denji. It’s easy to forget the dark overtones that the nature of their relationship’s create. Is Makima how she appears?
SPOILERS BELOW:
Makima is anything but what she appears to be. She is controlled by a very powerful demon known as the Control Devil. The Control Devil is denoted by her reddish eyes with golden rings. It is believed that Power knows about this and is skeptical of Makima’s motivations. Later in the manga Makima is revealed to be one of the Four Horsemen. The Four Horsemen are four devils that once tried to kill Chainsawman. These four devils are the only ones who know what and who Chainsawman is.
It only makes sense for Power to fear Makima. She knows who Makima is and what she intends. Power does not know exactly how she will be used to manipulate and use Chainsaw Man but she has a good idea that's what she is being used for. This leads her to have a healthy fear for the decisions Makima makes. This could also explain why Power is so reluctant to follow orders and comply with Makima’s demands.
Makima was reincarnated as a character unknown to the anime named Nayuta. In the manga, Makima is killed and reincarnated as a little girl called Nayuta. She is given to Denji to raise as his little sister to prevent the same events that lead to Makima’s death. Will the anime follow the same plot?
SPOILERS BELOW:
Makima is a very mysterious and instrumental character in the Chainsaw Man universe. She is the embodiment of the Control Devil. She has a long rich past with the Chainsaw Devil. Her relationship with Chainsaw Man is on the border of adoration and obsession. She is later killed in the series due to this obsession for Chainsaw Man. She is eventually reincarnated as a little girl named Nayuta. Nayuta is given to Denji to raise under his care so that she doesn't fall under the same corruption that befell her past incarnations. The manga explores this past more extensively.
Makima is the current incarnation of the Control Devil in the anime. It is not revealed yet how the series will play out but it's assumed that she will reincarnate into Nayuta in this iteration as well. Nayuta is a young impressionable mind so she is sent to live with Denji so that he can imprint his unique and kind nature onto her.
