Is Dragon Ball Super Over? What Has And Hasn’t Been Confirmed (Anime, Movies, Manga)

Going over everything Toei Animation and Dragon Ball Super’s creators have let us know about Dragon Ball Super’s return and continuation (manga, anime, and movies.)

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Dragon Ball Super took a huge hiatus toward the end of 2022, and many fans were a bit worried. The original anime run also ended in 2018. So what does this mean for Super as a whole? Will the anime return? Will the manga continue? How about movies? Well, here what we know.

    Is Dragon Ball Super Over?

Dragon Ball Super is not over yet. The manga and anime for Dragon Ball Super are both ongoing and will continue to receive chapters / episodes / movies. The Dragon Ball Super anime took a long hiatus in 2018, but movies have continued to be released and will continue. The anime also has plans to continue.

Toei Animation is very tight-lipped about the Dragon Ball Super anime, but there have been many leaks confirming its continued development. A few sources have even stated that Akira Toriyama will play a bigger role in its development going forward.

Even if they anime does not continue episodically, movies will continue to be made. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was an absolute success and Toei Animation plans to make many more Super movies going forward. This is great news and honestly, just makes total sense. Dragon Ball is one of the largest, most iconic anime franchises ever. The original manga, Z, and Super are all on some of the best Dragon Manga of all time, so there’s really no reason to stop producing it, especially now that it has found a second wind.

The manga is still being released as well and shows no signs of stopping. A new chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga is released every month and is one of the many perks of a Viz / Shonen Jump subscription.

When Will The Dragon Ball Super Manga End?

Dragon Ball Super is not likely to end anytime in 2023 and will likely continue being developed until 2025 and beyond. The Dragon Ball franchise is experiencing new-found popularity and its developers are taking advantage of the momentum. There is no confirmed end date for the Dragon Ball Super manga series.

We all know that the Dragon Ball Super anime ended back in 2018, unfortunately. However, there are many rumors that the anime will continue and that Akira Toriyama will play a role in its development. Even if the anime does not continue, Toei Animation plans to continue releasing new movies yearly / bi-yearly, so we will be getting a lot of Dragon Ball.

The Dragon Ball Super manga is showing no signs of stopping anytime soon. If I had to put a number on it, I’d say it will continue through 2025, easily. If Super ends before that, it will likely be due to a new series taking its place. Shonen Jump is going to continue releasing Dragon Ball content until it no longer makes them money, and at this point it will always make them money.

Is The Dragon Ball Super Manga Over?

The Dragon Ball Super manga is not over. The Dragon Ball Super manga is still releasing in regular intervals and shows no signs of stopping. Shonen Jump has not mentioned or hinted at the Dragon Ball Super manga being discontinued. Manga chapters and physical manga volumes are both being released.

At the moment, the Dragon Ball Super manga is being released monthly, one chapter at a time. You can read all of Dragon Ball Super with a Shonen Jump description (plus a few other benefits.) Or, if you’re caught up on the Dragon Ball Super manga, you can read the three most recent chapters 100% free using the Viz app or the Shonen Jump app. Which app you choose is a personal preference, and both apps have their own pros and cons.

I would put money on Dragon Ball Super continuing for another couple of years. I don’t expect the manga to stop anytime before 2025, but you never know of course. With the monthly release schedule, though, the series is very easy to maintain, so I expect it to last for years.

Is The Dragon Ball Super Anime Over?

The Dragon Ball Super Anime is over. The anime ended in 2018 and has not released an episode since then. However, there have been a few Dragon Ball Super animated movies since then, and these movies will continue to be released. There are also rumors and leaks stating the Dragon Ball Super anime will return.

So, yes the anime is over but the stream of Dragon Ball Super content is not over. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero did extremely well in theaters, so it’s very likely that Toei Animation is going to ride that momentum and produce even more DBS movies and content. Lately, Dragon Ball Super has not shied away from creating spin offs and branches from the main storyline, so fans expect that to continue as well.

Trusted sources have also leaked plans of the Dragon Ball Super anime continuing with Akira Toriyama playing a big role. However, these are still just rumors and nothing is actually confirmed yet. So for now, yes the anime is over.

    Will Dragon Ball Super Return?

Dragon Ball Super will return. It is not confirmed whether or not the Dragon Ball Super anime will continue or not, but Toei Animation plans to release more Dragon Ball Super content in the form of movies and manga. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was a huge success, so the series will definitely return.

Everything except the anime is basically confirmed to return. The Dragon Ball Super manga went on a bit of hiatus toward the end of 2022, but it is back and better than ever - releasing monthly once again. The Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero did extremely well in theaters, and Toei Animation has stated they want to continue releasing movies, so we can expect even more awesome movies in the future. Even the anime has rumors floating about of its return, but Toei hasn’t confirmed these rumors one way or another. All we can really do is cross our fingers and hope, though, because the manga has been absolutely thrilling since the Universal Survival Arc, and most fans would love to see it animated.

How Does Dragon Ball Super End?

Dragon Ball Super ends with Android 17 winning the Universal Survival Tournament and using his prize (A Super Shenron Wish that can grant any wish) to save every other universe that lost the tournament. We also find out that had he used his wish for something selfish, our universe would’ve been destroyed.

The ending of Dragon Ball Super is pretty awesome. We see Goku go Ultra Instinct and take on Jiran and then we get an awesome scene with one of the coolest characters in all of Dragon Ball. The whole episode is a wild ride, but the ending really put a great bow on the Dragon Ball Super anime.

Hopefully I can change this answer in the future, since the manga is still continuing and isn’t finished yet. We have no clue when the manga will end, how it will end, or anything else but if the series end is as good as the universal tournament arc’s end, then we are in for a treat.

How Often Is Dragon Ball Super Released

The Dragon Ball Super manga is released monthly. Every month a new chapter of the Dragon Ball Super manga is released on the Viz and Shonen Jump apps. The most recent three chapters can always be read for free, but a Shonen Jump subscription is required to read the rest of the Dragon Ball Super manga.

Dragon Ball Super took a small break towards the end of 2022, but it’s back at it and releasing monthly once again. Every month a new chapter of the manga is released and every four or so months a new physical volume of the manga is released in stores.

If you want to read the Dragon Ball Super manga online you can do so with the Viz app or the Shonen Jump app. The apps are extremely similar, but there are some small differences you should know so you can pick the perfect one for you.

You can also read Dragon Ball Super for free with the apps, if you’re already caught up on it. Everytime a new chapter is released, it is completely free. It remains free until three more chapters are released. Whether a Shonen Jump subscription is worth it or not really comes down to a personal preference, but I love using my subscription to read Dragon Ball Super. I don’t really want to collect all of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball Super because I just straight up don’t have room for the manga. My Shonen Jump app lets me keep up to date without having to waste space, and it’s only about $3 / month, so it’s well worth the money.

    Is Dragon Ball Super Weekly?

Dragon Ball Super is not weekly and likely will never be released weekly. The Dragon Ball Super manga is released monthly, so once a month a new chapter will be released on the Shonen Jump and Viz apps for Shonen Jump members to read. Physical manga volumes are also released once every 3 - 4 months.

Most of the time only newer manga are released weekly. Of course this isn’t a hard-set rule, and there are many exceptions. Dragon Ball Super is one of those manga that can release however often it wants and people will read it. They have chosen a monthly release schedule, so every month somewhere around the 20th, a new chapter will be released for readers to enjoy. If you’re a collector, you can expect a new volume of the Dragon Ball Super manga to hit shelves once every three or four months.

Alright there you have it. Everything there is to know about Dragon Ball Super’s return! So far, it looks like the series is going to be around for a while even if it’s only in the form of manga and movies. But we’re all crossing our fingers hoping for some more of that sweet, anime goodness.
